Compounding

Compounding is the preparation of a customized medication to meet a specific patient's need. This means that we can turn a tablet into a liquid form or put a nausea medication into a gel that can be absorbed through the skin. As a compound pharmacy, we can work with prescribers and patients to provide medications free of dyes, preservatives, sugar, alcohol, lactose or any other possible problem causing additive. Compounding combines an ageless art with the latest medical knowledge and state-of-the-art technology.

Specialized equipment is used in compounding. An electronic balance enables us to compound medications to the prescriber's exact specifications. Our patented capsule machine is used to efficiently compound capsules containing needed medication(s) in the most appropriate strength for each patient. An ointment mill reduces particle size and therefore can be used to compound preparations containing higher concentrations of active ingredients than can be formulated using traditional methods. Ointment mills are ideal for compounding transdermal and topical medications and provide a homogenized mixture that is cosmetically appealing.

Specialized Dosage Forms

Creams, Ointment, and Gels
Desired active ingredient(s) can be compounded into creams, ointment, and gels for topical or transdermal administration.

Lip Balm
Convenient applications can be used to deliver medication directly to an affected site, such as the lips.

Lollipops
Lollipops can be compounded to contain numerous medications and flavored to please and can be dispensed in child-resistant containers. Lollipops are an ideal dosage form for children or patients who have difficulty swallowing or to deliver medication directly to the oral mucosa.

Lozenges (Troches)
Troches are lozenges that can be placed between the cheek and gum to dissolve, allowing medication to be absorbed through the oral mucosa. Flavored gelatin forms can be chewed.

Puffer
The puffer is ideal for applying medication to hard-to-reach areas such as the ear canal.

Suppositories
Suppositories remain one of the most popular dosage forms. Unique designs such as the “rectal rocket” enable simultaneous internal and external medication administration.

Compounding for Pets

MedPro Pharmacy can also compound medications for pets. Our compounding specialist can prepare medication that delivers the right drug at the right dose for your pet. We can create a preparation that contains the most appropriate dosage for a specific animal. There's no need for clients to administer partial tablets, dilute solutions or give high volume doses. We make medicine that is easier to administer and often more economical.
